Goals: March

Life is all about setting goals. Once you achieve a goal, it’s on to the next! To help me take my photography to the next level, I’m going to start setting goals for myself on a monthly basis. My goal for March is to learn how to focus better in my photos. I love those awesome bokeh photos that people are always posting and the depth of field photographers can get. I know some of the basics of doing a person in focus with the background blurry, but not like I see on Pinterest. 🙂
To accomplish this goal, I have downloaded an ebook from Christina Greve called How to get the perfect focus EVERY time! (You can get your own FREE copy at http://www.christinagreve.com)

Pinterest is ALWAYS a great resource for learning photography techniques. I’ve pinned several good sites with good focusing techniques. There are so many out there, that I will be reading for DAYS!

I recently purchased The Photography Bible by Daniel Lezano. This is probably the best book I have ever owned. It is full of so many great things that any photographer should know about photography. From what camera to buy, which lenses to get, all the way to learning exposure, focus, and composition. Get your copy from Amazon!

With all of these great resources on the web, I have no excuses not to learn how to focus my camera better. Stay tuned for some examples at the end of the month, along with more information for my next goal: night photography.

Now the only thing left to do is read, read, read, and learn!

Here are some examples of what I want to be able to do.

Dan + Anne

Where to start with this one… Dan asked me one day if I could take some pictures for him and his girlfriend. He didn’t want just regular couple or engagement pictures though, he wanted me to capture him actually proposing to his girlfriend of four years, Anne. He came up with plan and picked a place and time. We met on campus, where he had a friend write “Marry Me Anne?” with chalk on the side of some steps. We walked around campus and took a few shots and then finally go to the spot where it was on the wall, and he got down on one knee and proposed! Don’t worry, she said yes 🙂
I think I was just as nervous as Dan was when the moment happened. It was such a rush, and I cannot believe that I actually captured it all on camera. I don’t even remember taking most of those pictures. It was such a beautiful moment and I am so glad that I got to be a part of it!

H Family

In December I was asked to do some family pictures for a lady that I work with on campus. I traveled out to their farm and we found some good places to take photos. I LOVE farms because I grew up on one, so it was very easy to find a good backdrop. They are a cute family a lot like mine, 3 older brothers, and the youngest a girl. I was a bit nervous at first because I had never met any of them (except the mother), but I was greeted at the door by a little girl who didn’t want to wear te clothes her mom picked, and a little boy full of many stories. I instantly felt comfortable, and overall it was a great shoot.
